Mary & Eric: Destination Wedding at Castlemartyr Resort, Cork
Mary and Eric travelled from New York to celebrate their destination wedding at Castlemartyr Resort in Cork, surrounded by family and friends who made the journey to Ireland to be part of their day.
With everything taking place at the venue, the celebration felt immersive and relaxed: a full weekend atmosphere where time slowed down and every moment could unfold naturally. From private vows by the castle ruins to an outdoor ceremony shaped by the Irish wind, their day was filled with emotion, connection, and a sense of ease that comes from doing things your own way.
Getting Ready at Castlemartyr
The morning began quietly at Castlemartyr, with both Mary and Eric getting ready on-site. Having everything in one place meant there was no rushing between locations — just a calm, grounded start to the day.
There was a quiet anticipation in the air, especially knowing they had planned something meaningful before the ceremony.
First Look & Private Vows by the Castle Ruins
They met for their first look near the castle ruins, one of the most atmospheric parts of the estate. Away from everything else, they exchanged private vows, a deeply personal moment that set the tone for the rest of the day.
Afterwards, we stayed there for a few minutes, capturing some relaxed portraits while they were still in that just-married-to-each-other kind of headspace, it was natural, unposed, and completely present.
Outdoor Ceremony at Castlemartyr
Their ceremony took place outdoors in the gardens, with the Irish wind adding movement and energy throughout. It’s something that can’t really be planned but often becomes part of what makes a ceremony feel alive.
The setting felt both open and intimate at once, surrounded by greenery and the atmosphere of Castlemartyr.
Wedding Portraits & Drinks Reception
After the ceremony, we stepped away briefly again, just for a few minutes, making the most of the soft, shifting light before returning to the drinks reception.
Guests gathered outside in the gardens, where everything flowed easily into speeches held outdoors. It gave the whole afternoon a relaxed, social feeling, where nothing felt too structured or forced.
Quiet Moments & Bar Portraits
As guests were being called into the dinner room, we slipped away for a few minutes into the bar, a completely different atmosphere from the gardens outside.
The space felt intimate and cinematic, offering a quiet contrast to the openness of the day so far. These in-between moments often become some of the most meaningful, a pause in the middle of everything, just before the evening begins.
Wedding Evening at Castlemartyr
Mary and Eric chose to have their first dance before dinner, which created a really natural transition into the evening. For dinner, Mary and Eric sat at a sweetheart table, just the two of them, allowing a small pocket of calm in the middle of the celebration. Then there was few more speeches in the dinner room and another quick photoshoot with the setting sun just before the first dance.
Dancing & Celebration
As the night unfolded, the energy shifted into something more playful and personal. One of the highlights was Mary and her sister singing an ABBA song together — a tribute to their Swedish roots that brought so much joy into the room.
It was one of those moments that couldn’t be planned, but felt completely true to them and that’s what made it unforgettable.
Castlemartyr Resort is one of the most beautiful destination wedding venues in Ireland, offering a unique blend of history, elegance, and space to create a celebration that feels entirely your own.
For couples travelling from abroad, it creates the perfect setting to slow down, stay present, and experience their wedding as something more than just a single day, something immersive, meaningful, and deeply personal.
